Yes, Yes it is.Is a maruti gypsy really a suzuki samurai?
Hi, nope it isn't.
A Muruti is a license built Suzuki, made in India by Maruti Udyog Ltd.
The original SJ410 is the Maruti Gypsy, the long wheel base SJ410 the Maruti Gypsy King.
Having driven a couple of them in Malta - where they were shipped in and assembled for a number of years - and having owned many SJ's , they are virtually the same.
Latest Marutis use the 1.3 16V Suzuki engine similar to the Euro spec Swift GTI, and early Jimny models.
Check out Maruti's Website if you want more info, pics etc, on
www.marutiudyog.com, or check my own Club ZULU Website on www.Zuks-Un-Ltd-Uk.freeservers.com
Hope this helps, and best regards,
Steve
Club ZULUIs a maruti gypsy really a suzuki samurai?
Yes, they're basically the same vehicle. It looks just like one because all the changed were the emblems and some minor trim bits, leaving all the major parts like the interior, hood, doors, body shell, tailgate, engine, frame, and suspension the same as on the Suzuki.
I've got a similar case in the Geo Tracker I own, which is identical (except for emblems, grill, and wheels) to the Suzuki Sidekick.
The reason this is done is for two reasons. One is to save money (it's much cheaper to rebadge a vehicle than to build a new one from the ground up). Two is that in places where that vehicle is sold (in this case, India and surrounding countries), one brand is more recognizeable than the other and will sell much better. The same thing happened here in the United States. Suzuki built models for Geo, and the Geo models outsold the the same Suzuki models in vast numbers because people were more familiar with the Geo brand than the Suzuki brand at the time. Once they figured it out, it got reversed, and now Geo no longer exists while Suzuki does.
I hope this has answered your question. If you have any more, please feel free to ask.
