I have a 1987 Samurai. It sat all winter and the breaks wouldn't work. So far I've replaced break line, the master cylinder, rear drum breaks, front calipers. I bench bled the master cylinder before installing and bled the entire system many times over, I've went through several gallons of break fluid. There aren't any leaks in the system that I can see. If anyone can lead in in the right direction on what to do next it would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking the proportioning valve may not be properly working...Suzuki Samurai break issues...help?
Well your problem is that you should have been working on the brakes and not the breaks.Suzuki Samurai break issues...help?
To begin with they're BRAKES, not breaks. Beyond that how about a clue about what isn't working. Is the brake pedal going to the floor with no resistance? Do the brake drums move when the pedal is depressed. Do the calipers move or have any effect on the rotors? With a stuck or inoperative proportioning valve you should have either front or back brakes. Both wouldn't fail.
As a guess I'd say you have a bad master cylinder. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause both front and back to not work.Suzuki Samurai break issues...help?
Hi
The best way to handle it now is to gravity bleed it. Put a little hose on the bleeders and just wait and reuse the fluid that is coming out. Take your time.
