I live in MA and i was wonder what age can kids/teens ride the plane alone i was looking at Logan International Airport and it says you have to be 15? My brother (14) going to see a family (don't ask why alone) is it different in other place or is it a law? Please Help please don't ask about the family or whateverWhat age can a kid/teen ride the plane alone?BTW -- Not directly to your question about commercial flights, but something you (if under age 18) and your brother might be interested in doing sometime ...
Fly in a small plane on a local flight for a free introductory flight experience.
There is a great program called YOUNG EAGLES.
In the program, members of EAA (www.EAA.org - about 170,000 members worldwide) fly youth ages 8-17 in a small plane (usually a 2 or 4-place plane) on a local flight experience where most of the youth will have a chance during the flight to do a little flying - keep the plane at a steady altitude and heading, make gentle turns, etc. While it's NOT a lesson, if you've never flown in a small plane before, oh what a wonderful experience! You might get hooked and want to become a pilot !
The Young Eagles program has flown over 1.5 Million youth. This international program has some famous people as it's Chairmen - past and present. Your parents will certainly recognize some former Young Eagles Program Chairmen: Chuck Yeager and Cliff Robertson. The Chairman for 5 years until last year was Harrison Ford (he's not only an actor, but an active pilot). The current Co-Chairmen are “Sully” Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles - who safely landed their US Airways flight 1549 on the Hudson.
Go to www.YoungEagles.org (lots of other cool kids aviation stuff there, too) -- Then look about 1/2 way down and click on: TAKE A FLIGHT -- Then look to the right and click on: Schedule a Flight then select your state. You'll see a list of the local Young Eagles Chairmen for each EAA Chapter which flies Young Eagles. Most of these chapters have a few Young Eagle Rally events each year. My chapter (www.EAA106.org) has our next event on September 18 at the Lawrence Municipal Airport - (usually our event is ~9am-2pm, but is weather dependant, so watch our website).
One VERY important thing ... Be sure not to forget to THANK your pilot !!!
This is a FREE fight for you, but it's VERY expensive for the pilot who personally DONATES his time, fuel (~$5-6/gallon for aviation fuel, burned at ~8 gallon/hr ...), maintenance (expensive), etc.
NOT enough YOUTH (and the parents forget, too) THANK their pilot. Even better -- after thanking them that day, send them a note or card to reinforce your appreciation -- It means the world to them!!
Have Fun -- And blue skies! What age can a kid/teen ride the plane alone?I have flown on planes before that had kids who appeared to be under the age of 10 flying alone. i was flying out of manchester airport in NH.What age can a kid/teen ride the plane alone?Depends on the airline, mine will allow a flight of one leg to be made by a 5 year old (I think that's too young, but they didn't ask me, I'm only the Captain). What age can a kid/teen ride the plane alone?
