Does anyone know the actual reason why Plane and train spotters are called anoraks?

Im both but i dont know any real reason why we (plane and train spotters) are called this. Does anyone know why this is.Does anyone know the actual reason why Plane and train spotters are called anoraks? All I could find out is that the word anorak is from an Eskimo word, anoraq, meaning a heavy jacket worn in the polar regions.

In England, where the weather is rainy, they are worn as a rain coat; because the trainspotters wear them to keep dry, people started to call them that, based on the jackets they were always seen in, and the name stuck.Does anyone know the actual reason why Plane and train spotters are called anoraks? The anorak is a type of down or poly filled hooded jacket favored by young people in England and much of Europe. Because it is usually cold at UK airports, and always breezy when trains zip through UK stations, anoraks are worn by people who want to stand around spotting planes and trains. I don't know the derivation of anorak, but it may be a brand name. -- Bjo
