How does serving alcohol on a plane work?

Here is an example.

The drinking age in America is 21 as in the UK for example is 18.

What if an American 18 year old gets on a plane to the UK. Would he/she be able to buy the alcohol on the plane? And what if the English person who is 18 comes to America. Can they legally buy it on the plane???How does serving alcohol on a plane work? The actual rule is the drinking age is set according to the law of the country where the aircraft is registered. That means a US registered airliner will have an age 21 requirement while most European-registered aircraft have an age 18 requirement. How does serving alcohol on a plane work?Buy?
