Hello, I just wanted to know what happens when an air line turn a plane round quickly, I know they clean, refuel, load unload luggage etc but i cant figure out what the trailer they plug the plane into is for...? ThxWhat is the purpose of the compressor like unit a plane is plugged into when it lands? To answer your question correctly there are a couple of units the aircraft plug into. One is a Ground Power Unit (GPU) if power is not supplied at the ramp. The GPU provided electrical power only to the aircraft.
The other unit with the 12-inch yellow hose is an air machine providing air-conditioning. There is on some airport a small 6-inch brown hose with high-pressure air used to run the air packs for air conditioning and also used to start the engines when the onboard APU is not used.
There is also one other hose used to drain the blue water toilet tanks, nasty job.
Keep in mind each type of hose is a different color and size so they can not get mixed up by ground personnel. What is the purpose of the compressor like unit a plane is plugged into when it lands?
It's electrical energy for the plane when the plane's engines are not on and therefore not generating electricity. What is the purpose of the compressor like unit a plane is plugged into when it lands?its a gpu (ground power unit) it is used so you dont have to use battery and kill batteryWhat is the purpose of the compressor like unit a plane is plugged into when it lands?
cabin air conditioning, ground power, start up air when the next flight is to resume, there are may uses depending on the aircraft involvedWhat is the purpose of the compressor like unit a plane is plugged into when it lands? It is a GPU. It provides electrical power to the aircraft. It helps on starting the engines, keeping lights and air conditioning on... ect. In some larger aircraft the airplane might have an APU (auxiliary power unit), that serves the same purpose and it is already built into the aircraft. Only downside is it is VERY noisy and VERY expensive. What is the purpose of the compressor like unit a plane is plugged into when it lands?
Airliners when on the ground are plugged into ground power units to provide electricity, conditioned air to provide cool or heated air(whichever is needed). Using ground based units is cheaper and more environmentally friendly in most cases. If the airplanes APU..auxiliary power unit is inoperative an air cart can be used to help start one engine before push-back.What is the purpose of the compressor like unit a plane is plugged into when it lands?
GPU: Ground power unit which provide power to air conditioning, and anything that takes place requiring power at the gate.
APU: Auxilary Power Unit is used for push back and is basically a GPU, but is installed in the aircraft for portability.
