I am taking my dog on the plane this Saturday and was wondering what will happen if he starts barking .. besides angry passengers pissed off at me. ???

anyway, yes, benadryl, works well. you have to give it at least a half hour before the flight takes off for it to kick in.

have you called your airline? I don't think they allow dogs to be brought on board in a bag. I have seen service dogs and small dogs in crates that fit under the seat, but not a bag. I don't believe a bag is acceptable. You don't want your animal impounded, do you? You didn't mention the breed. Is he going under the seat in front of you (as baggage) or in cargo in the plane's cargo area? PLEASE consult with your vet. The pressure, temperature, stress, etc., are all key factors and you don't want to be tranquilizing your dog without specific instructions from someone who understands all the factors. Dogs are NOT typically sedated for flights any longer. There are other key things to think about including food and drink before the flight. Please talk with your vet.

If you are taking him on the plane, you should definitely be able to control the dog's barking. It's not a hard command to teach: enough! If your dog is sure to bark incessantly, "pissed off" passengers are not the only problem. You have a responsibility NOT to take the dog onboard if you are going to create problems that the rest of us dog people are going to have to endure. We want the option to take our dogs who DON'T bark, who can be good travelers. Think larger. Be kinder.
