How to replace kingpins bearing on suzuki samurai?
This is a pretty difficult process usually - complicated by years (decades?) of dirt and corrosion. Basically all the brake components and the steering linkages must be removed from the knuckles. Assuming you have the solid straight axle with the "bell" ends - the king pin caps go into the knuckle top and bottom. Remove the bolts holding the king pin caps and pry them out. You will need a bearing puller to get the tapered bearing race out of the axle bell bores. You will probably find a shim - or several shims under the cap. try not to damage these. Install new bearing races by tapping in with a suitable drift - probably a large socket will work. Make sure they are fully seated. when you put the king pin caps in with the new tapered roller bearing seat the bottom one fully. Try installing the top one with the same shim pack that it had. Tighten slowly and rotate the knuckle to check for resistance (the inboard oil seal flap should be removed from the axle bell). The shim pack sets the bearing pre-load. There is probably a spec for the force to rotate the knuckle - say so many in-lbs of torque. You will have to get this from the service manual. Add or remove shims to get the correct torque. Do NOT overload the bearings or they might get dented and then wear out very fast. They also cant have any looseness or the steering will "wobble". The shim pack has to be just right.travel trailers
